EXPAN(D)TEC® System Ludwig
– Type PLD/QLD
– Type PLD/QLD
Application:
Winding and unwinding web materials in processing and finishing machines, textile machines, packaging machines, and more. Accepts winding cores made of cardboard, plastic, metal, composite materials, or wood in all common dimensions. Can be used as a center winder with drive and/or brake.

Function
Type PLD
With the PLD pneumatic-mechanical safety clamping system, a spring assembly pushes the clamping bars, evenly distributed around the circumference, radially outward, thereby clamping a pre-mounted winding core or spool with a defined contact pressure. The integrated pneumatic cylinder counteracts the spring force and, when supplied with 6 bar of compressed air, pushes the clamping bars inward to release the winding core. Unintentional release of the winding core-such as from a pressure drop or leak-is reliably prevented. The centrally expanding clamping bars ensure precise alignment of the winding and guarantee high concentricity.
Type QLD
The QLD works on the same principle. However, the sleeves are tensioned mechanically, by operating the handle instead of pneumatically.
Advantages
Safety clamping technology – unintentional release due to pressure drop is impossible (Type PLD)
Quick clamping in seconds via spring force (Type PLD)
Release using 6 bar compressed air against the spring force via a permanently installed central rotary actuator (Type PLD)
Fully autonomous operation – no tools or auxiliary equipment required (Type QLD)
Spring-buffered re-clamping for secure and reliable hold (Type QLD)
Fast clamping with just a few handle turns (Type QLD)
Continuously adjustable clamping force to match application needs (Type QLD)
Continuous clamping bars enable both very narrow and very wide cores to be clamped on the same mandrel
Key technical data:
- Winding cores with an inner diameter of 70 mm to 200 mm
- Customer-oriented panel width
- Winding weights up to 200 kg
